All questions: 10
How does barrier-free tolling on the M50 work?

Cameras read your registration plate as you pass the toll point between junctions 6 and 7. There is no barrier or toll booth. If payment is not automatic, the driver must pay the toll separately.

Do I pay for the whole M50?

The eFlow toll applies when you cross the toll point between junctions 6 and 7 in either direction. Driving on another part of the M50 without passing this point does not incur this toll.

Do I need an account for a one-off payment?

No. You can make a one-off payment in the “Pay a Toll” section of the official eFlow website. Our guide has no registration or user accounts.

When do I need to pay the toll?

By 8pm on the day after your journey, Irish local time, unless your toll is paid automatically. For example, a Monday journey must be paid for by 8pm on Tuesday.

Who pays the toll for a rental car?

Your agreement determines this: the rental company either includes the toll in your final bill or requires you to pay it yourself. Confirm the terms before you travel.

Do foreign-registered vehicles need to pay?

The M50 toll also applies to visitors driving vehicles registered outside Ireland. When paying, enter the registration country and number carefully, following eFlow’s instructions.

Do motorcycles pay the M50 toll?

eFlow lists motorcycles among the categories exempt from the M50 toll. Check the operator’s official list for other exemptions, including special-purpose vehicles.

Do all Irish toll roads use the same payment system?

No. The 8pm next-day payment rule applies to the barrier-free M50 toll. Check with the relevant operator for payment arrangements on other roads and tunnels.

Can I check outstanding charges on this website?

No. This guide is not connected to eFlow’s database and does not collect registration numbers or bank details. Check charges on the official website or through eFlow customer support.

What should I do about an urgent payment text?

eFlow warns that it does not send text messages containing links. Do not open suspicious links or enter card details. Visit the official website yourself and check with the operator.

Where to check the details

Contact the operator for definitive terms and details about a specific journey.
